One Word
We're excited for you to see how we are stepping up our recruitment efforts showcasing our incredible talent... YOU!
Our marketing team visited some of our centers to ask teachers the one word they would use to describe their students, as well as to ask students for one word to describe their teachers. The joy and inspiration embodied in these single words are immeasurable. Check out future Tuesday Newsday updates to see the difference DEL educators are making in students’ lives.
Introducing Day Early Learning at Howe
As part of Indianapolis Public Schools' Rebuilding Stronger plan, we are partnering with IPS to open a Day Early Learning center at their new Howe IB Middle School. Our Chief Engagement Officer Heather Pease and Superintendent Dr. Aleesia Johnson recently toured the new center that will open this summer and support 80 children infants through pre-k.
As you read in Maureen's announcement, we are recruiting team members for our new Day Early Learning at Howe location, opening in August 2023! If you are interested in promotion opportunities or transferring to this location, apply to job postings here. If you know of someone looking to join the Day Early Learning team, connect with the ELI Talent Experience team.
Lunch & Learn
Team member Bethany Williams brought us an engaging presentation on social-emotional learning and resilience in the classroom, during our latest Lunch & Learn. The presentation was focused on how teachers strive to foster social-emotional skills within their curriculum and classroom environment. She also discussed the importance of team member resilience and provided a few moments in the presentation for participants to reflect on their own emotional status. If you missed it, you can watch the recording by clicking below.
Early Learning Indiana and Ivy Tech Community College hosted an Early Learning Workforce Convening. Workforce and early care and education experts from throughout the nation gathered to discuss implementable solutions to Indiana’s -- and the country’s -- early childhood workforce challenges. It was a day filled with innovative ideas, groundbreaking discussions and plans for moving this work forward.
Funders Forum
Maureen joined Muncie & Delaware County BY5 Early Childhood Initiative and other early learning stakeholders in the Delaware County Funders Forum. We are encouraged by their efforts to address the root causes of early learning access and quality challenges through innovation and collective action.

Deeply Ingrained at DEL
With help from PNC Grow Up Great initiative, Deeply Ingrained — an Indianapolis nonprofit committed to providing youth woodworking opportunities that develop creativity, learning and skill-building — brought their workshops to IU Health Day Early Learning where preschoolers made calendars with their own hands. The impact of their visit was clear to see - our preschoolers were absolutely thrilled to learn new skills. What was especially impressive was how focused and safe the children were while using adult items like hammers and nails to create their hand-crafted calendars. Deeply Ingrained will visit IU Health Day Early Learning a few more times throughout April and May for more custom activities. We are grateful to PNC Grow Up Great Initiative and Deeply Ingrained for their ongoing commitment to education and service in our community.
EHS PD Day and Self-Assessment
April has been a busy month for our Early Head Start (EHS) teams. During the EHS Professional Development Day followed by the Self-Assessment meeting, all EHS center and partner site team members gathered to learn more about family engagement, health services and education practice.
Exploring Creativity
At Day Early Learning, we know that creative inspiration comes in all forms. Take a look at how our students have been exploring their artistic side.
TEAM RESOURCES
Safety Spotlight
This month's Safety Spotlight covers strategies for positive guidance approaches in the classroom. It’s important to encourage children to identify and vocalize their feelings.
Doing so will help children strengthen their problem-solving skills through cooperation and teamwork.
Know Your Numbers
Early Learning Indiana is now introducing a new element to the wellness program! The Know Your Numbers (KYN) program promotes annual wellness visits to your healthcare provider in order to remain aware of your personal health status. By visiting your healthcare provider for a wellness visit, having your healthcare provider fill out a KYN physician form, and waiting for Apex Benefits to receive this form, you may be selected to win a $250 contribution to your health savings account (HSA).
