Day Early Learning at Howe

I’m anxious to share some news with you. ELI is partnering with Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) to open a new center aimed at increasing IPS employee recruitment and retention while better meeting the early learning access needs of the Indianapolis community. IPS employees will be given priority placement and the center will be open to the entire community.

Located on the campus of the historic Thomas Carr Howe High School, Day Early Learning at Howe will add 80 infant through pre-K seats, similar to the arrangement of DEL at Manual. ELI will bring high-quality early education to a new area on Indianapolis' near east side, furthering our mission to ensure children throughout Indiana are empowered with essential skills to thrive in kindergarten and beyond. The new center is expected to open in August so that IPS team members’ children can start as the 2023-24 academic year begins. 

I can imagine that some of you might have questions about expanding our footprint even as we continue to struggle to staff our current locations. As a leadership team, we have been very selective about the growth opportunities frequently placed in front of us and we wrestled with this challenge for a long time before agreeing to terms with IPS. Ultimately, we were compelled by the data and the opportunity – there are simply too many young children in this community who can benefit by accessing Day Early Learning and the opportunity to serve them while supporting the broader educational system convinced us that this was a risk worth taking.

DEL team members hired for this location will largely hail from a new area of Indianapolis, as we grow into this community. Like Manual, we look forward to welcoming a team of new hires, plus a few more experienced team members.
