Dear early care and education provider,

The Family Resource Navigator is a one-stop shop for all the resources families need to thrive, from social, educational and health resources to career training and economic support. One of the best ways families can help their children grow is by providing healthy food to fuel their growing brains and bodies. So this month, Family Resource Navigator is providing easy, healthy, WIC-approved recipes and healthy eating tips through the new “Food for Thought” campaign.

Over the course of three emails, we’ll share easy ways for you to help share this information with children and families, improving their access to healthy food to fuel growing brains. In this first email, you'll learn how you can create a healthy food study in your classroom or center.

Healthy Food Study

Bring a healthy food study to your program or classroom by using the following resources and tips.

  • Whether or not your program is part of the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), check out the many resources available to educators here.

  • MyPlate.gov offers free, printable materials here. You can refine your search by topic, age group or resources specifically for educators.

Consider building a food study throughout the week exploring the different areas of MyPlate: fruits, vegetables, grains, protein and dairy. Using the age-appropriate resources on the site, discuss the sections of the plate, plan activities using those foods and serve them at meal times. These resources are available to you regardless of your program's participation in CACFP. At the end of the week, invite children to make a meal together in an age-appropriate way.

Thank you for sharing these important resources with the families in your program. Visit the Food for Thought web page for more information.
